Anyone reading this article will probably think I am mad for standing as a candidate for the BSAC councils positions available this year. Mad, yes... Passionate about the organisation, certainly; take a look at my BSAC profile.

My appreciation of the current BSAC situation

The British Sub Aqua Club is a fantastic organisation that needs sensitive development or it will die. The Club ethos must be maintained, but continuously modernised, to recognise and serve the rapidly changing needs and lifestyles of existing and potential members: this can only be achieved if the organisation works as one with strong leadership. We must develop products and services to be attractive to instructors in other organisations encouraging them to certify divers using BSAC materials.

It is vital to appeal to the young, providing them not only world-class diver training and a progressive route to greater achievement, but also products and social scene that matches the exciting image of diving.

My manifesto

  • Continue the work currently undertaken by council and staff to establish what potential and existing members want from the organisation, now and into the future
  • Be a part of a cohesive team, led by the Chair, to deliver the necessary changes
  • Help bring together all the facets of the organisation to work as one
  • Encourage members to regain the organisation's rightful place at the forefront of amateur underwater exploration

Oh... and make sure I do loads of great diving myself.
