Elegant Casual: Cunard cruise essentials 12 April 2008

Angela Campbell and Anne Alcock

When Angela (my wife) said she was going on a cruise I nearly dropped of my seat. Where had all the adventure gone? What had happened to this hard drinking rock monster from hell? I soon found out. One of our long standing friends Mrs Alcock had arranged it: Queen Victoria out of Southampton. Me thinks, bound to be full of coffin dodgers.

Rennie (Ren) and Anne Alcock are very long standing friends are are responsible for Angela and myself learning to dive. Over the years I have been away on diving trips with Ren and Angela with Anne. This year they wanted something different, so a cruise it was. All this was fine until I cast my eyes upon the 'Cunard Voyage Guide'. Here it spells out down the finest detail what goes on and the 'do's and don'ts' aboard the vessel.

Page 16: Dress codes... For dining Elegant Casual is required : Jacket, no tie required for gentlemen. Dress, skirt of trousers for ladies. No shorts or jeans.

So, I was at my desk writing a new section of my book before Anne and Ren come over for lunch when up comes Angela dressed Elegant Casual; she tells me she is trying it out - I laugh hysterically...

From my brief enounter with Angela a couple of years ago (That sounds bad ....) I can’t remeber ever seeing her not look elegant and casual.

She is the kind of woman that makes everyone around her want to raise their game, and is wholly responsible for anyone being willing to spend enough time with Simon to end up liking him :-p

Have your say
