Life’s great characters: the O-Ring King

I have been privileged to know the O-Ring King for a few years now. He is one of life’s great characters as well as a generally funny and knowledgeable bloke. Besides being the Equipment Officer in our dive club (RVSAC) he helps my mum out with broken washing machines, light-bulbs and other domestic stuff that I can’t do or haven’t the time to sort out…

Brian Cooper - the o-ring king He does talk a lot, generally about the toroidal pieces of rubber found in all diving kit known as O-Rings. Hence the name, the O-Ring King.

I have seen grown men willing to tear their own heads off rather than him present another ‘lecturette’ on the subject.

Seriously though he has taught me a great deal about diving equipment as he is a SCUBA technician and is meticulous when servicing this life dependent stuff.

A word of warning. If you do visit to deliver or collect your kit, take emergency rations and a tent. You may be there some time…

There is a man who speaks the truth….Now while you’re here have you had the lecture on the benefits of EPDM (that’s Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer to you non rubber technologists) and the draw-backs of touching burnt Viton????

I thoroughly enjoyed your article on the O-ring King.  He has such a sparkle in his eyes, looks like a delightful character.
