Well then, the membership of the British Sub Aqua Club have elected me to represent them as a member of the council, but what the hell do you want me to do?
I am very flattered that I attracted quite a few of you to vote for me. Clearly, I will do my level best will deliver the manifesto I wrote in the election publication but I really want to know what you really want out of the club.
Please leave as many comments as you want below. I may not be able to respond to all of them, but I will bear them in mind when at the council meetings...
Remember, a council member is a Director of the Limited Company so I am, along with my other directors, legally responsible for the operation of BSAC as a business. Diving matters are the domain of Sean Gribben, the National Diving Officer.
I look forward to hearing from you all...

Hi Simon
Congratulations on your appointment! Fantastic news.
I would like to see PIE being reconsidered for OWI. I think that it is currently too easy for a candidate to teach 1 lesson - (and sometimes it is not an underwater lesson), and they qualify as a diving instructor. I think more of an assessment may be more appropriate and certainly assessing if the instructor can teach underwater should be one of the essential criteria for a pass.
I also think a lot of the theory papers at different grades need to be looked at. We should iron out the dubious questions that crop up in most BSAC exam papers.
Some of the AI theory questions are howlers and I have had several NI or FCD divers confirm that the questions are incorrect. Dont want to publicly post some of them for others to see, but you can pm me and I can let you know which ones I was amazed at.
A lot of the questions re-cap things that you will have covered in other exams, so what are we seeking to achieve here?
One thing I thought about. NI exam - you have to have sat FCD theory within 3 years. How about saying for AI, you have to have sat AD exam within 3 years? Just a thought.
That’s about it!
Cheers
